FREESAT PARTS INTRODUCTION FOR NEW FREESAT USERS.

The Humax Foxsat freesat family of receivers are an example of the possible freesat set top boxes available for selection. As well as being easy to set up the viewer who likes to tweak can enjoy these features also.
The picture in HD can only be viewed to appreciate how good High Definition can be, assuming you have all the correct equipment.
To fully enjoy HD you will need an HD television.

CLEAR SATELLITE DISH PICTURE

Satellite dishes come in all shapes and sizes and the freesat satellite dish makes little difference whether it be a huge dish from your locality or a small 60cm dish from the centre of England. For those viewers who wish to hide their dish, perhaps because of local by-laws, conservation area or whatever may be interested in a clear dish similar to the one in the graphic, the one pictured is 80cm - the choice of satellite dish is yours, although many are using one of their old Sky dishes.

Coax cable for your freesat set-up is very important and should not be overlooked. Most installers will use something like or similar to cable named CT100. Although this may work perfectly well it can be badly influenced by electronic gear you may buy after you are settled in with your freesat equipment.
We advise using coax cable named CT125 or CT233, it is less likely to cause problems and is much harder wearing and less likely to cause problems with electronic gear - add this to the fact your freesat viewing will have less signal loss if you are running coax at length. The small extra cost for good coax is well worth it.

COAX CABLE SELECTION
BARREL F-TYPE CONNECTORS PICTURE

Freesat receivers have screw on coax connections and the easiest type for the DIY person is the screw on type. Many different types of F-connectors can be bought including in line connectors which can be used for example, if you move your freesat receiver from one room to another and to avoid more drilling etc...

Push-on f-type connectors are such a brilliant idea if you are in a tight space. Instead of screwing the completed f-connector onto your freesat or multi-sat set-up, be it Sky or the "Clark Belt", you simply screw the f-connector into the back of these adapters and they in turn slide onto the freesat f-connector point - no hassle, and no visible picture loss.

MANUAL COAX SWITCHER PICTURE

The AB switcher pictured is just one possible solution to those with other satellite equipment. The AB or coax switcher is cheap and cheerful with a simple slider switch to change from for example; freesat to Sky and vice versa.
These switchers can help you avoid, drilling extra holes for extra wires and cables and although pictured is a manual version, it is possible to buy an auto-type switcher.
